Royal Visit in Crissier

R.I.P Thankyou for you service to our country condolences to the Queen and the rest of the Royal family.

It was a memorable day in March 1982 when HRH Prince Philip came to lunch at Fredy Girardet Restaurant in Crissier, the best restaurant in the world.

Being the only British member of the team and one of the Assistant Restaurant Managers I had the pleasure of inviting HRH into the kitchen to meet Mr. Girardet and the kitchen team, he excepted with no hesitation, I did ask his entourage if HRH would sign the restaurant visitors book, “yes he will but nothing else” as he signed Mr. Girardet’s book I took my book that I had hidden under the table and asked if he would not mind doing another, which he also did.

The Hotel de Ville has an illustrious culinary history, gaining three Michelin stars under Fredy Girardet, Philippe Rochat and then Benoit Violier. Following the latter’s tragic death in January 2016 the leadership of the kitchen has transferred to Benoit’s long time right-hand man, Franck Giovannini.
